Among the Clouds

During this 2-week BVW project at the ETC in CMU, I worked as a lighting artist and programmer in a 5 people team. We made an interactive experience that gives the guest freedom of flying and interacting with the environment using webcam and mic.

As the lighting artist and the programmer of the team, I was responsible for scene lighting, shaders, post processing, and visual effects of the game. I wrote multiple shaders for clouds and grasses of the scene and spent a lot of time putting together the environment and making adjustments of the scene lighting. In addition, I also made all the cutscenes for the game using Unity’s Cinemachine and Timeline features.

The look of our game has gone through a lot of iterations, and I was on the journey of mastering scene light, shaders, vfx, and so on as the project continued. As you can see, the initial scene has a total different feel of lighting from the final game. Being the lighting artist of our project, I was constantly adjusting lighting and visual settings of our game and I communicated with my team members a lot to discuss how to tailor the scene lighting to the best we want.
